Shutters offer numerous benefits to a home, however, perhaps one of the best lifestyle benefits is how little maintenance they require. When compared to other window treatments such as blinds and curtains, we are talking about hours of time saved in cleaning, not to mention frequent trips to the dry cleaners. For example, with plantation shutters, there are no hooks or pleats, no need to get out the ladders and take them down for cleaning, and best of all, it is extremely quick.

How to clean shutters

Below are a couple of tips to clean shutters. You will be surprised by how little they need.

Dust each slat

To keep your shutters clean and dust-free, use a dry, no-polish dusting cloth or a feather duster, then, open your slats, and dust each slat separately. Then turn your slats and do the other side. We recommend microfiber cloths when your shutters are within reach to clean, or an extendable feather duster when your shutters are too tall for you to reach safely. If you have solid shutters, all you have to do is dust down with your cloth for the perfect clean.

Move up and down

Should you prefer to work horizontally, which can clean several shutter slats at one go, then choose a slatted blind cleaner. These are usually used on Venetian blinds, and they are perfect for cleaning shutters. Simply work your way from the top to the bottom of your slats. This is the end of today’s blog.
